Women’s League raise money for National Deaf Children’s Society

Unitarian women will this year be raising funds for The National Deaf Children’s SocietyThe British League of Unitarian and Other Liberal Christian Women (known as The Women’s League or WL) has been busy promoting its fund-raising project for 2016/17. Each year a charitable cause is selected and Unitarian women across Great Britain work tirelessly to raise funds reflecting the Unitarian commitment to building a better world for all. The amount raised will be presented to a representative of the Society at the Annual Meeting in April 2017.

The National Deaf Children’s Society is the leading charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for deaf children and young people. 95% of their work is funded by the public so the support of organisations like the Women’s League is essential.

The Society offers information and support to families with a deaf child. Through their publications and web forums, the Freephone Helpline, specialist advisers and family events, parents are offered help from initial diagnosis through to adulthood. As well as offering various activities for children and young people, they campaign to ensure fair access to public and other services and provide guidance for professionals.

The Women’s League have raised over £200,000 over the last 40 years for a range of charitable causes in Britain and internationally. These include many health related charities as well as work in North West India, particularly in sustaining the work and legacy of Unitarian minister, Rev Margaret Barr in the Khasi Hills in North East India.
